What is Dental Sedation?
With dental sedation, we can use a variety of techniques to help patients feel less anxious and more comfortable during dental procedures. Our dentists can help you decide whether a dental sedation option is right for you.
Our team at LightHouse Dental Cobourg does everything in our power to help patients feel relaxed during the dental appointments. Along with offering dental sedation options, we are committed to working at your pace, offering breaks when you need them, and providing calm reassurance as required.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Inhaled through the mouth and nose, nitrous oxide sedation helps to calm patients, who remain awake and able to communicate. It may also lessen anxiety, reduce gag reflex, make time pass more quickly and increase pain threshold.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form for you to take orally before your dental appointment. These will leave you awake for the procedure, but produce a calming effect to help you significantly relax.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives are administered directly into the bloodstream through the vein for the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. Our dental team will attach you to a monitor so that the dentist can keep track of vital signs during the procedure.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a controlled state of unconsciousness that eliminates awareness, movement and discomfort during dental treatment. Complex treatments can be completed while you are asleep in one appointment.
